Fixtures & Fittings

Hi everyone, hope you all enjoyed the week of school, I think the garden missed us!

This week in Garden Club was all about preparation. We split into 2 teams, the first group went with our adult helper and tried to find the sunflower that had previously been painted on the hill! After we decided that we had found the right bit and remembered where we had got to with our bulbing, we split into smaller groups and bulbed for our lives! we must have planted 50 bulbs at least and we still haven't finished! Who's idea was that anyway???? Its a really mucky job we but enjoyed dibbing out the holes, planting enormous daffodil bulbs and recycling soil from withered plants giving the bulbs a soil hug to encourage growth and protection from the winter frost.

The second group also had great fun, they were sawing, hammering and making the parts we need for our "bottled greenhouse". We have been recycling 2 litre plastic bottles, cutting off the base and piling them on top of each other, ten for each supporting cane. These will be secured onto the frames we have made and become the walls, roof and door of our greenhouse. We would still be struggling without the help of Mr Gallagher and Mrs Morton, they have been fab and explaining everything as they go along as well as encouraging us to help. The funniest sight was seeing two garden club boys sitting on a long piece of wood to make sure it didn't move while Mr Gallagher was sawing off the end bits!!

We are hopefully going to have this structure ready in the next few weeks. We can't miss out thanking the adult helpers who have been popping into the garden while we're at school to help us out and they will also be securing the posts for our greenhouse frame in the next week or two (weather permitting).

Well, as you can gather it was an exciting day for us. We'll keep you up to date with our progress.

I wonder what next week will have in store for us, we'll let you know!

Bye for now xx

Hi, gardening club member here. What another busy day!!!

Again we split into 3 groups: some of us were building the greenhouse walls using plastic bottles with the help of Mr Gallagher and Mrs Morton. It really is beginning to take shape I don't think it will be long before it will be in use!! The other two groups had the muckiest, wettest, slippy jobs EVER!! At the ' Grown -up gardening day ' a big flower was outlined on the hill  and we put in bulbs using daffodils for the petals and bluebells in the centre and crocus for the perimeter of the stigma (the middle bit!) Our trousers were very mucky!!!! Our grown up helpers were worse than the children! It as nice to garden when it's not raining!!!

Schools off next week so you'll get another posting in 2 weeks.

                                                           bye
